The MedMira Board of Directors is comprised of:

The Honourable James Smith, M.D.
Chairman, MedMira Inc.
James Smith was a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Province of Nova Scotia from 1984 until his retirement in August, 2003. He served as a Provincial Cabinet Minister of Community Services; Housing and Municipal Affairs; Health and Justice, and Nova Scotia Attorney General.  Dr. Smith held a number of Executive positions with the Nova Scotia Medical Society and the College of Family Physicians of Canada.  He was awarded the Family Physician of the Year Award in 1985 from the Nova Scotia chapter of the College of Family Physicians of Canada; the Silver Keystone Award from the Boys and Girls Club of Canada and the Rotary Paul Harris Award. He serves on the Board of Directors for BioNova and the Advisory Council for NovaKnowledge.  Dr. Smith received his medical degree from Dalhousie University and a B.Sc. from the University of British Columbia.

Hermes Chan
Director and President & CEO, MedMira Inc.
Hermes Chan, co-founder, and President & Chief Executive Officer of MedMira leads a passionate and committed team in driving the strategic direction  and growth of the company in global markets.  Mr. Chan, who was named BioScience Innovator of the Year by The Economist in 2007, is the inventor of MedMira's patented rapid flow-through technology (RFT) platform, upon which all of the company's rapid tests are developed.  Since the company's inception in 1994 he has held progressively senior management roles at MedMira including Research Scientist, General Manager, Senior Vice President, and Chief Operating Officer. Prior to MedMira, Mr. Chan worked with another Canadian biotechnology company in the diagnostics research sector.

André Archimbaud
Director, MedMira Inc.
André Archimbaud is an executive with extensive experience in the life sciences sector, serving in various roles in the industry for more than 25 years.  Most recently he served as Senior Vice President, Life Sciences for the Société Générale de Financement (SGF) du Québec, a government-owned investment entity contributing to the development of life sciences both locally and internationally.  Prior to SGF, Mr. Archimbaud was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Vancouver-based Kinetek Pharmaceuticals Inc., a biotech start-up recognized for its expertise in the field of molecular biology applied to oncology.  Mr. Archimbaud also held progressively senior roles in sales, marketing, business development and licensing in his 20 years with Ipsen Beaufour, a European pharmaceutical company.

Markus M. Meile
Director, MedMira Inc.
Markus Meile is the Chief Executive Officer of Vitest AG and has been with the company for two years. During this time he has taken on progressively senior roles including Director of Business Development, Chief Operating Officer, and most recently CEO.  Prior to joining Vitest, Mr. Meile was with Deutsche Bank, Private Wealth Management division, in Hong Kong.  Mr. Meile has also worked with one of the largest capital life insurance firms, Swiss Life, as an advisor of two funds for Banco del Gottardo.  In addition to his wide range of international business experience, Mr. Meile brings an in-depth educational background. His studies entail a BSc from Royal Holloway London, as well as diplomas in Business Management, Insurance, Strategic Planning, Investment, and Accounting.

Romano Robusto
Director, MedMira Inc.
Romano Robusto is a seasoned life sciences executive with over 20 years of experience in the industry, primarily in the diagnostic sector. He has held a broad range of positions including Intellectual Property, Sales, Business Development, Strategic Planning and Senior Management. Mr. Robusto most recently served as the Interim Chief Executive Officer of Radient Technologies and prior to this he worked within the life sciences division of the SGF, the economic development arm of the Quebec Government, responsible for investing development capital into companies that had achieved commercial viability. Mr. Robusto has also held numerous positions within the diagnostic division of Biochem Pharma. He holds degrees in Common and Civil law from McGill University, a BSc in Physical Therapy from McGill University and majored in Biochemistry at Concordia University.


Shou-Ching Tang M.D., Ph.D., FACP, FRCP(C)
Director, MedMira Inc.
Dr. Shou-Ching Tang is currently the Endowed Martha Bacon Stimpson Chair in Medical Oncology at the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute (VPCI) and Director of Breast Cancer Research with the VPCI Breast Center and the Minnesota Oncology in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. Previous to his relocation to MN,  Dr. Tang was with the University of Colorado in Denver where he held the post of Professor and Chief of Hematology and Oncology at Denver Health Medical Center, as well as Clinical Professor in the Division of Medical Oncology at the University of Colorado.  Dr. Tang has held a number of other faculty and administrative appointments at medical universities in Canada as well as leadership positions as Associate Center Director, Director of Solid Tumor and Clinical Research at the Sylverster Comprehensive Cancer Center, University of Miami and Director of Breast Cancer Program at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona.  Dr. Tang was the Founding Chair of the Atlantic Canada Oncology Group (ACOG) in Canada and the Founding President of the US Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (USCACA). Dr. Tang received his medical degree from the West China University of Medical Sciences, Chengdu, Sichuan, China and a PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada.  Dr. Tang frequently speaks at national international conferences, and has published extensively in respected scientific journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Journal of Clinical Oncology and the International Journal of Cancer Research and Oncogene.
