Building on their successful line of single rapid tests for HIV, Hepatitis C (HCV) and Hepatitis B (HBV), MedMira has developed a line of multiple tests to address growing demand for tests that do more, in a world constantly challenged with declining healthcare dollars and resources. The first in this new multiple line is the Multiplo Rapid HIV/HCV Antibody Test.
Both HIV and HCV are serious blood-borne pathogens with similar modes of transmission, through blood and other body fluids, and persons infected with one virus may also be infected with the other virus, or be at risk of contracting it. HIV and HCV co-infection is not uncommon; approximately 33% of those people with HIV are co-infected with HCV (www.hivandhepatis.com). Until recently, persons with HIV-HCV co-infection often succumbed to AIDS-related illnesses before hepatitis could become a problem. With the recent developments in HIV treatments, such persons are living longer, only to develop hepatitis-related health problems. Current treatment options are available for HIV and HCV infections but require testing to determine if these infections co-exist. Traditional diagnostic methods involve individual tests for each agent with a turnaround time of up to several weeks. Multiplo HIV/HCV can provide test results instantly, ensuring that healthcare providers and patients have all the necessary information in order to choose the right treatment plan.
